NOPE.
Frederick County and city officials brushed aside rumors Wednesday that they expressed an interest in housing D.C. United's new stadium.
Officials here said they have not been in contact with D.C. United about the soccer team's need to find a new 24,000-seat home.
The team's plan to move from Washington's RFK Stadium to a new stadium in Prince George's County effectively ended this week after county council members opposed an effort to study the project, according to The Associated Press.
A spokesman for D.C. United said the soccer team will talk to other communities.
Frederick County is not one of them, said Laurie Boyer, director of the county's Office of Economic Development.Boyer said her assistant, Helen Riddle, made a mistake when she told a reporter this week that Frederick County was looking into it.
Boyer said Riddle might have confused D.C. United with a smaller project involving a 6,000-seat arena capable of supporting a minor league team.
"Private folks are working on the project," Boyer said.
Team officials have been looking at Montgomery County sites for a couple of years and recently spoke to officials here about their interest in a possible Frederick County site, she said.
Poolesville United, bitches.
BTW, how many giggles do you think Adrian Fenty has enjoyed throughout the PG clusterfuck? Hey, Victor, you wanna hardball me, you wanna jerk me around, you threaten to go to PG, fuck you, go deal with Jack Johnson and the PG council, dumbfuck.
OH! Farc Misher, in bemoaning the false promises of Nationals Stadium, can't resist a dig at United (though it probably can't be overestimated how much the Lerners' assclownery has damaged MacFarlane's dreams of assclownery).
UPDATE! MOCO UNITED!
Bwahahaha....
“I think there are some potential options in the county, and I think
it’s at least worth having conversations with people about it,” said
Montgomery County Councilman Mike Knapp, who is also chair of the
Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee.
He said the Shady Grove area, which is next to public transit now, and Germantown, which could be served by transit down the line, are options for a stadium site.
Um...
County Executive Isiah Leggett’s office has not yet been contacted by team officials, according to Patrick Lacefield, director in the Montgomery County Office of Public Information.
O! the Fuck-Me Jig I'd jig the first game at United's new stadium off Crabbs' Branch Way, and not because I want the stadium in South Gaithersburg.
And a suggestion! Put the stadium on the back nine of Columbia Country Club, smack on the Purple Line! wOOt!
UPDATE! ENDGAME!
The commish:
"D.C. United is a premier sports team in America and it certainly is one of the premier teams in Major League Soccer. It has a very passionate fan base and without United, RFK would not have been viable for the past dozen years or so. We have a very active foundation, we have fans that any sports league can be proud of and any community can embrace. We don't seem to be able to get a deal done and it could be that, if something can't be resolved, we will move the team."
He RIPS PG:
"I am both confused and shocked by what took place in Prince George's County. I am confused because the county very formally reached out to the team to see if they would engage in discussions about moving the team to the area. [United] dropped everything in D.C. and began negotiations, had a press conference and talked about their mutual desire to pursue the concept. And then I read that the council won't even support a bill with the state to look at the project. I certainly hope other businesses that are interested in bringing jobs and economic development to that county have a better experience with them than we did. It's not something I have ever experienced in any other city I have worked in in this country, and for the last 10 years, I have been personally involved with 10 stadium projects and this region of the country has been the single most-difficult area to try to get something finalized. It has me very concerned."
St Louis United, mofos.
